SIBLEY-For a high school wrestler miele t 8861 wp edition 111 in Iowa, earning a spot on the Iowa High School Athletic Association’s state champio nship bracket, wrestling in Des Moines and having the first-place medal draped around your neck while standing atop one of the most coveted podiums in the state is what drives months of hard work, dreams and determination. On Saturday, miele t 8861 wp edition 111 Feb. 15, four wrestlers from Central Lyon/George-Little Rock came one step closer to that dream at the IHSAA’s miele t 8861 wp edition 111 District 6 tournament in Sibley. The top two wrestlers in each weight class at districts go on to the Iowa High School state-wrestling tournament in Des Moines Feb. 20-22.
Mitch Van Beek (120 pounds), Zach Fugitt (170 pounds) and Travis Vander Streek (220 pounds) finished second in their respective weight classes miele t 8861 wp edition 111 and Colby McIntire was the district champion at 132 pounds.

Nolan Geerdes (285 pounds) went 1-2 on the day, finishing in third place.
Van Beek won his first match of the day after several scramble situations went his way, winning an eventual 8-7 decision over Ben Mc Daniel of Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn. Van Beek then faced Hinton’s number miele t 8861 wp edition 111 five-ranked Cole Mills who brought a 44-3 record into the district tourney. Mills came out on top, winning a 9-4 decision over Central Lyon/George-Little Rock’s freshman grappler, leaving Van Beek in second place on the day.
The road to qualifying for the state tournament was a bit longer for Fugitt, who dropped his first match of the day to Brandon Thompson of Lawton-Bronson, 10-7. Fugitt then won by fall over Matt McGrauth of Graettinger-Terrill/Ruthven-Ayrshire in the third-place match. Fugitt earned a wrestle back match against Reed Mitchell of Woodbury Central to determine the second-place winner when Thompson won over Mitchell in the first-place match. Fugitt won by fall over Mitchell in four minutes to secure his trip to Des Moines.
Vander Streek also had to win three matches in order to qualify for the state tournament. The junior grappler, who brought a 41-4 record to the district tournament, won his first match of the day by fall over Evan Else of Ridge View in 54 seconds. miele t 8861 wp edition 111 In the first-place match Vander Streek struggled to find any offense against number six-ranked Blake Sappingfield of Lawton-Bronson who won the 2-1 decision. Vander Streek then faced Sibley-Ocheyedan’s miele t 8861 wp edition 111 Devin Hoekstra for the second-place medal and a trip to the state tourney and won by fall in 24 seconds.
